Grönefeld Unveils the 1941 Quadrivium: A New Masterpiece by the Horological Brothers

After years of sustained demand for several of its most celebrated and now discontinued timepieces, including the One Hertz, Parallax Tourbillon and Remontoire, Bart and Tim Grönefeld proudly introduce a new pinnacle of complicated high horology: the Grönefeld 1941 Quadrivium.

Developed entirely from the ground up, the 1941 Quadrivium brings together four of the independent watchmaker’s most admired complications in a single, extraordinary timepiece: a 7.5-second remontoire, a one-minute flying tourbillon, central jumping seconds, and a power-reserve indicator. The movement is equipped with serially connected concentric twin barrels, providing the energy required to drive this exceptionally complex mechanism.

The result is a technical and artistic achievement that has already earned an affectionate nickname among those who have encountered it: “Grönefeld’s Greatest Hits.”

 Four Disciplines, One Exceptional Timepiece

The name Quadrivium  originates in classical scholarship, where arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy were regarded as four foundational disciplines forming an integrated whole. At Grönefeld, the name alludes to the four mechanical complications that define this new creation.

The 1941 Quadrivium brings together the horological ideas and technical signatures associated with some of Grönefeld’s most acclaimed creations, while introducing them in an entirely new movement conceived specifically for this watch.

At 6 o’clock, a raised one-minute flying tourbillon provides a dramatic focal point. At 9 o’clock, an exposed governor rotates once every 7.5 seconds, visually revealing the operation of the remontoire. A large central jumping-seconds hand provides an unmistakable display of the seconds, while the 50-hour power-reserve indicator occupies the 10 o’clock position. Hours and minutes are displayed at 2 o’clock.

A Distinctive Expression of the 1941 Design

First introduced in 2016, Grönefeld’s 1941 case design has become an increasingly iconic element of the brand’s design language, shared by the Remontoire, Principia, Decennium and Grönograaf. The Quadrivium’s case measures 40.0 mm in diameter and 11.3 mm in height.

 The dial combines a finely frosted main surface with hand-beveled stainless steel elements and polished, multi-faceted white gold hour markers. Traditional blued steel  hands complete the restrained yet highly detailed aesthetic. Collectors can choose from five different base colours for the dial. These colours will be announced on our website a few weeks after the launch.

Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire exhibition case back, offering an unobstructed view of the elaborately finished movement and its 473 components. As with every Grönefeld creation, the architecture and finishing of the calibre are intended not merely to demonstrate technical sophistication, but to make the movement itself an integral part of the watch’s visual experience.

Limited Editions

 The Premiere Edition is limited to 28 pieces, each featuring a case and buckle crafted from Tantalum. A further limited edition of 28 pieces is available with a case and buckle crafted from Platinum.

Deliveries of the Tantalum Première Edition are scheduled to commence in 2027.
