WHAT IS LEGARE’S FIRST WATCH?
It is a tribute to a watchmaker named Albert-Gustave Piguet, who was the legendary technical director of Lemania (1948-80) and the creator of the world’s most famous chronograph caliber, the Lemania Caliber 2310. It has also been the base for the most famous contemporary chronographs.
In 1932, when Piguet was just a student at the Vallée de Joux School of Watchmaking, he created one of the most important watches of all time. As his graduation project, he created this stunning example of classic Vallée de Joux watchmaking but with two massive split bi-metallic balance wheels with their results averaged by a differential.
There were six of these pocket watches made from 1932 to 1934, with movements measuring 38, 43 and 48mm in diameter. It was this pocket watch that would inspire all double oscillator watches coupled with a differential.
LEGARE asks the question, “What if Albert-Gustave Piguet didn’t join Lemania, but instead decided to create a brand of his own, based on his revolutionary movement, one named the ‘Double Balance Chronometer’”?
It is made in just 25 individually numbered pieces.
